Wike stated that if he were distracted by the issue, many projects in the FCT would be unable to be commissioned.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has claimed that he is not distracted by the political crisis in Rivers State involving him and his former Accountant-General and now state governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Wike stated that if he were distracted by the issue, many projects in the FCT would be unable to be commissioned.

With the current political situation in Rivers State, there have been various allegations that Wike is distracted and is not focusing on his duties as FCT minister.

The minister, who was the immediate former governor of Rivers state, revealed this on Friday, May 17, in Abuja while visiting some significant projects that President Bola Tinubu would commission beginning May 27 to commemorate his one-year in office.

Wike said, “I am not distracted as FCT minister. If I’m distracted, you will not see all these projects in FCT.”

According to him, Tinubu will be commissioning projects which will last for nine days in FCT.

Recall that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had declared that nothing would make it change its position on the vacation of seats by former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who defected from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party had also said it was not under pressure from any quarters to compromise its position in court.

In a statement signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba on Thursday, the party had said it had already clearly stated that the former lawmakers were no longer members of the Rivers State House of Assembly from December 11, 2023 when they publicly announced their defection from the PDP to the APC.
