A renowned journalist and activist during the era of the famous annulled June 12, 1993, election, Wale Adeoye has said that President Muhammadu Buhari intention to honour late MKO Abiola is to seek electoral fortune from the South West.

Adeoye in an interview with SaharaTV also called on the Federal government to not only seek peace but deliver justice to journalist and activist who were unjustly killed while fighting for the cause of Nigeria’s democracy.

He said, “It is not just about honouring people, you must create a mechanism to address the injustice of the past so as to give confidence to future generations of Nigeria.”

Recognizing that Buhari has started the healing process, Adeoye doubted if true justice can be got for the victims of the struggle. He said “I think we can admit that he has started the healing process but if our destination is justice I can't even see it in sight”

He further questioned if the Nigerian government is interested in Justice or just interested in seeking electoral fortune.

Adeoye also noted that the military officials who unjustly killed activist fighting for their Government were never brought to book.

“You are going to give honour to Abiola, you are also giving honour to KingIbe.  Two weeks earlier he(President Buhari) has praised Gen Sani Abacha; that was the man who annulled the June 12 election, the man who killed Kudirat Abiola, right on the street of Lagos.

“So you begin to wonder are we really interested in Justice or we are interested in just seeking electoral fortunes,” he said.

Comrade Adeoye further said, “If we are genuinely interested in Justice, we need to account for the lives that have been lost in this past years and to ensure that their families are compensated with justice which is the most priceless thing that any victim of right violation can ever value”.

Speaking on the 2019 elections, Adeoye maintained that Nigeria has a long way to go while asserting that the people are looking forward to a free and fair election in 2019.
