Attorney-General’s Absence In Court Stalls Arraignment Of Suspected Killers Of Imo State Monarch
April 15, 2024

The four suspects were billed for arraignment by 9am but the judge was forced to shift the arraignment till noon due to the non-appearance of the AGF or his representatives in court.

The arraignment of the suspected killers of the traditional ruler of Amanze-Obowo autonomous community in Imo State, Eze Basil Njoku, was stalled on Monday by the absence of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, or a representative.

Following the absence of the AGF or his representative to lead the prosecution of the defendants, Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja adjourned the possible arraignment of the four suspects to April 30.

The four suspects were billed for arraignment by 9am but the judge was forced to shift the arraignment till noon due to the non-appearance of the AGF or his representatives in court.

However, by noon when the arraignment was to be held, neither the AGF nor his representative appeared in court nor was there any information or communication to the court on why the AGF or his representative was not in court.

The judge therefore invited lawyers to the defendants into her chambers where an adjournment of April 30 was fixed.

The four suspects arrested in connection with the killing of the monarch were Jude Iheme, Chika Madukwe, Nwokorie Chidiebere Ejike and Victor Nwajuiba Obumneke.

Meanwhile, the three count charges earlier preferred against the suspects have been amended and increased to five.
