Gani Fawehinmi Organisation Demands Decongestion Of Nigerian Prisons, End To Insecurity

The organisation made the demand on Monday during a world press conference held at the Mallam Abubakar Balarabe Musa House in Kaduna State in celebration of late Chief Ganiyu Fawehinmi and late Mallam Abubakar Balarabe Musa on Fawehinmi's 86th posthumous birthday. 

 

 

 

 

The Gani Fawehinmi Memorial Organisation (GAFAMORG) has called for the decongestion of Nigerian Correctional Centres and an end to insecurity in the country. 

 

 

The organisation made the demand on Monday during a world press conference held at the Mallam Abubakar Balarabe Musa House in Kaduna State in celebration of late Chief Ganiyu Fawehinmi and late Mallam Abubakar Balarabe Musa on Fawehinmi's 86th posthumous birthday. 

 

 

GAFAMORG, during the conference, emphasised on the year’s theme and sub-themes, which dwell on social justice to enhance human dignity, restorative justice system to decongest correctional centres in Kaduna and beyond, including the social stigma Almajiris system of Islamic education in the North as a whole, by addressing the issue holistically in the course of the event and proposed programme.

 

 

Giving further details of the programme, the Director General of GAFAMORG, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, said during the conference that “after our organisation first media organisations conference as earlier mentioned, we resolved and decided to make it a three-legged event this year, whereby today April 22, 2024 is scheduled to host another group of media organisations in Kaduna, precisely at Mallam Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa house and equally inform the general public of the main symposium/lecture which is the grand finale, coming up on the 12th of May, 2024 at Umaru Musa Yar'Adua Conference Centre here in Kaduna.

 

“Today's World Press Conference and media coverage is the second one in the series of the 3 legged events, as we intend to host and reach out to the underprivileged and disadvantaged in Kaduna, including the less privileged, persons with disabilities and "Talakawas" in the society. 

 

“The usual practices dear to the heart of these two celebrated departed heroes and icons (Chief Ganiyu Oyesola Fawehinmi and Mallam AbdulKadir Balarabe Musa) when they are alive with us is by eating and giving out food to the dregs of the society, during their birthday celebrations.

 

“The third and the last event, which is the grand finale is billed and proposed to be hosted aforesaid on May 12, 2024, by the governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, who himself was a mentee of Late Gani Fawehinmi and Balarabe Musa. 

 

“He will be looking at this year's programme as a panacea and social support as a work in progress to solving the security challenges in Kaduna, Northern Nigeria and indeed the country in general. 

 

"This year lectures/symposium will attracts dignitaries and very important personalities from all walks of life from Kaduna and beyond,  the Executive Governor of Kaduna State promised to be in attendance, all converged to honour these two great icons and quintessential exemplars, Chief AbdulGaniyu Oyesola Fawehinmi and Mallam AbdulKadir Balarabe Musa, who made great marks, after they bestrode the Nigeria landscape and left an indelible imprimatur in the sands of time.

 

 

“GAFAMORG hereby today celebrates and immortalises these two great heroes and pride of Nigeria, in a unique and symbolic way this year, with this second event of the 3 landmark events, which speak to what they stood and died for; on ideas, ideals, ideologies and principles worthy to emulate by all and sundry."
