It was gathered that the terrorists fired RPG and destroyed the MTN network mast in the town to distort communications between the people and response agencies.

The Zamfara State Police command has confirmed that at least three persons were killed on Wednesday when terrorists attacked Zumi town.

Confirming the incident, the Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar, told SaharaReporters on the phone that three persons were killed in the attack while there were also casualties on the terrorists’ side.

Abubakar said the terrorists also abducted one person, adding that they had planned to cause great havoc in the area but for the quick intervention of the police and other security forces.

He said that none of the terrorists who came in their hundreds had been arrested but added that efforts were ongoing to rescue the kidnapped victim and arrest the terrorists.

The police spokesperson said, “Yes, but our gallant officers repelled the attack. However, there are some casualties. Three persons lost their lives but our operatives repelled the attack.

“They wanted to cause serious chaos yesterday but God has assisted in repelling the attack after three people lost their lives and they abducted one person. But efforts are still on to rescue the person.”

Asked if any of the terrorists were arrested, the police spokesperson said, “No, the effort is still on. There are some casualties on their own side, because they were in hundreds, so there are some casualties among them.”

Asked how many of the terrorists were killed, the PPRO said, “We cannot ascertain the number of those that were killed but we believe there are some casualties among them due to the exchange of fire with them.”
