Benin-Auchi Road Connecting Eight States, 500 Communities Now In Terrible Shape, Death Trap
May 4, 2024

Bad road networks in Edo State have become a normal lifestyle for the people.

A civic technology platform in Nigeria, Monitng has raised concerns over the poor state of Benin Ekpoma/Auchi road, Edo State.

The group stated this while sharing photos of the road on its X page, stating that the road which connected about 500 communities in eight states in the country is now death trap and no longer motorable.

The post reads:  “ATTENTION!!! Dear @realdaveumahi. This is the TERRIBLE state of Benin Ekpoma/Auchi road, Edo State.

“The only access road connecting over 8 states and 500 communities. It's no longer accessible. We urge you to do the needful.

“The road now a death trap for road users and has affected the economy activities of the state. We're calling on the @GovNigeria and @GovernorObaseki to kindly do the needful.”

Bad road networks in Edo State have become a normal lifestyle for the people.

Corporate workers have made rubber slippers part of their office outfits as this makes waddling through rainfall puddles easier.

Benin City has it worse, with potholes so bad that it is hard to tell if they hadn’t always been like that.

It also doesn’t help that one of Edo’s most plied roads, the Benin Bypass, has become a death trap.

The writer described his travel on Edo roads in these words, “The feeling from surviving a fall from maybe 200 flights of stairs is akin to what you get every time you travel by road through Edo State.”
