MAPOLY Lecturers’ Union Gives School Management 7 Days To Implement Nigerian Government’s Salary Increment, Others
May 5, 2024

The communique was issued at the end of the congress meeting of the association held on the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic campus, Abeokuta, the state capital.

The Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has given a 7-day ultimatum to the school management to fully implement the 35 and 25 percent salary increments for workers of the institution, as approved by the government.

Mr. Adegunle Tomisi, ASUP Chairman of the polytechnic, said this in a communique issued on Monday, April 29, in Abeokuta. He said the union would resume its suspended industrial action immediately at the expiration of the notice if the government fails to accede to its demand.

The communique was issued at the end of the congress meeting of the association held on the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic campus, Abeokuta, the state capital.

He said the union in session deliberated on issues of importance as they concern members of the association and reviewed the responses of the management to the legitimate demands of the union.

The union on March 19 made some demands following its congress.

He noted that the congress found the management's response unsatisfactory given its non-committal to and partial fulfilment of the union’s demands.

For instance, he said the management refused to treat the career progression of staff members with all the seriousness it deserves.

According to Tomisi, Mapoly ASUP had demanded the domestication of the approved 35% and 25% salary increment for the staff members of the school and the payment of a minimum of four (4) semesters out of the six (6) outstanding semesters of part-time claims/allowances.

He said, "Immediate roll-out of APER forms of 2021/2022 for processing, immediate completion and release of 2020/2021 promotion letters and accompanying appointments, as well as immediate conclusion and release of the delayed conversion, upgrading and regularisation list.

"Also, immediate payment of arrears of earned allowances on the 2020 staff promotions and immediate conclusion of the 2019/2020 appointment exercise of the institution."

The union in its resolution reiterated its objection to the management's “retrogressive staff career progression stance and requested the full implementation of the promotion exercise of the Mapoly”.

The union directed the management to immediately release its check-off dues and other deductions already made from staff members’ monthly salaries, noting that the “management’s attempt to tacitly undermine the potency of the union by deliberately withholding its dues is disturbing”.
