The Women Empowerment and Legal Aid (WELA) congratulates the Honourable Minister of Information, Professor Dora Akunyili on the courage she has displayed in joining the teaming population of well meaning Nigerians asking for the handing over of power to the Vice President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan by the ailing President Umaru Yar’adua who has been on sick bed in Saudi Arabia since November last year.
By urging the President to write the National Assembly for medical vacation and the Federal Executive Council to rescind its earlier decision of December 3, 2009 that the President was not incapacitated, a good example has been shown to others on the need to put the country’s interest first and respect her constitution on all issues that affect the country’s citizenry.
With the courage exhibited by the Honorable Minister, Professor Akunyili has once again demonstrated that being in position of governance requires the capacity to measure public opinion and the flexibility to gauge the feelings and submit to the will of the people.
By toeing this path of honour and choosing to pitch tent with the people on an issue that affects them and the corporate existence of the country, Prof Akunyili has no doubt demonstrated a very important astute of a leader.

... It is only in Nigeria that Someone who hobnobs with an illegal, inefficient, and apparently corrupt president for two years, told lots of lies in the process, repeatedly told us there was nothing wrong with the president when she knew the man was seriously sick, suddenly becomes a heroine overnight for merely submitting a memo!! Is she really sincere or just trying to play to the gallery, like they often do? Is it impossible that she envisaged Yaradua’s non-return, and then decided to curry Dr. Goodluck's favors through her open allegiance to him!More dignified and sincere people like Okonja-Iweala resigned their positions when faced with similar circumstances. Why did madam rebranding find it difficult to toe that honorable line...of course the lure of power is too strong. Like Turai, like Akunyili. I see everything but patriotism in her entire action, it smacks of deceit and cheap tactics. |

... Dora is a woman. Even if she was penciled down to be dropped from the FEC, she was not the only person that was penciled down to be dropped. Why did others not have the guts to speak out. She at this stage has played Good politics, not like Aondoaka who wants to be a sychophant even into his grave. The truth is that Yaradua is dead and Dora is tired of hidding this fact. What has stopped him from coming out of his shell to dispel any rumour apart from what we heard on tape. He should therefore be declared incapacitated and Jonathan declared the president till the end of their tenure. Akunyili, I love you. You have never failed us. If forty percent of the FEC were like you, Nigeria would have been much better a place for us. Jonathan shoud not fail to removed the bull mouthed person called Aondoaka. |
