This photo essay offers a glimpse into the real story of the Yar'adua family, showing the family’s modest means before Yar’adua’s entry into public office. The photo essay exposes the lies, greed and deceptive public image cultivated by the Yar’adua family.
From left: Yar'adua's first daughter, Maryam, now married to Mr. Badamasi Kabir, a member of the House of Representatives representing Katsina Central; Yar’adua’s wife, Hajia Turai; daughter Zainab, now married (2nd marriage) to Kebbi State Governor Usman Saidu Dakingari; daughter Nafisat, now married to Governor Isah Yuguda of Bauchi State (their wedding cost an obscene N3 billion). Baby A'isha Yar'adua is on Turai's laps.
Aisha was billed to marry Sokoto billionaire oil magnate, Rahamaniyya, but the wedding plans were terminated in favor of her marriage to either the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Aliero, or the Kaduna State governor, Sambo. This photo was taken on the occasion of A'isha's naming ceremony, seven days after she was born. At the time Turai could only afford a plastic necklace, but she now has access to the most expensive jewelry, including gold and diamonds.
Hajia Turai and her children own choice plots of land in Abuja, interests in banks, oil companies and numerous companies that are used as fronts to milk the Nigerian treasury. Turai Yar’adua is reputed to be an aggressive collector of bribes from politicians wishing to get into juicy positions as well as those whose positions may be threatened. She charges a fee of $30,000 for anybody who seeks an appointment with her.
When Yar'adua declared his assets in 1999, he barely had N50 million naira. In 2003, he did not declare his assets, claiming that nothing had changed. But in 2007, on the eve of his swearing-in, he made a declaration of a whopping N900 million naira.
Even so, Yar’adua’s 2007 declaration was meant to fool Nigerians. It did not include several properties, including a N200 million house in Kano that Yar’adua purchased in 2002 from Kano-based Lebanese businessman, El-Tayeb.
A source that has been close to the Yar’aduas since their days in Katsina told our correspondent that “it is strange how this family with a humble beginning has become one of the most greedy in our country’s history.”

The photos speak for themselves.

... The issue is not president Yar'adua and his family but leadership in the geographical mistake called Nigeria. Nigeria is to big a country to be ruled by a black-headed man. It will take the likes of Nelson mandela to lead this country into her promise land, but since there is none, lets tell ourselfs the honest truth. The best thing that will happen to this country is for us to divide peacefully. We are not one country. Hausa man knows that Ibo man is his number one enemy and Ibo man knows that he has nothing in common with the Yorubas, and so also all the minorities. We cannot keep patching this controvasial country. We are not the same. We are not one country. We are not meant to be together, its just fear and greed that makes some region to glue themselfs to other region for survival. Its obvious that we are just suffering our selfs struggling to be together, but the more we try the more the struggle continues. lets divide this country so that every region will her peace. |

... Is disappointing to read that some Nigerians (home and abroad ) believe that one of the criterial of looting government money is for you to have a humble beginning (poverty beginning). Well, there's no excuse for stealing, a thief is a thief and as they say picture don't lie. But we should not forget that history has a way of punishing wrong doers (including their children) for example look at life of the children of the people that looted Nigeria, we how have a terrorist among them as a matter of fact you don't need to look further look at the life of their female children most of them can't even maintain a good matrimonial (that is the effect of the course effect of the money their father stole). Today may be good for the looters but, they should always remember what the bible said "we evil doers are prospering, they are about to perish" a word as they say is enough for the wise. |

... Ladies and Gentlemen I honestly do not see what the President has done wrong. I tend to believe that Mr. Yaradua is a modest man by nature based on what I’ve seen on the internet on him. Yes his family looked like an average family in Nigeria, but that was then. The daughters are no more little girls they are full grown women and surely look healthy and rich. I don’t expect the first family of a nation to look haggard. Finally, if money is being squandered, maybe the problem is the system and not Mr. Yaradua. If these pictures show that they were living a simple life in the 80s, that is something the Yaradua family should be proud. I know families that were not a quarter as rich or powerful as the Yar-aduas in the 80s that were living in way much more lavish opulence. These picture did nothing but make me believe that the man is not part of the cabal that we are used to in Aso Rock. Its pity he fell victim to the hawks that put him there. |

Going through a lot of the posts here makes my heart bleed for Nigeria. To think that an individual who has access the internet would put forward the kind of grammatical misconstruct here says a lot about the state of the nation and why we are far behind the rest of common humanity. People please go back to school and learn to read and write properly. I fail to understand how somebody who cannot put a clear sentence together would understand the fine points of governance in a modern democracy. The Yar'aduas are not doing anything new. Obasanjo probably had a humbler beginning than them and he left the govt as arguably the richest man in Sub-Saharan Africa. Why are we not talking about him and his family? The history of our "PRESIDENT" has nothing to do with the country's dilemma, rather it is the conduct of our leaders - including the president - that matters. Is it so difficult for us to do the right thing?, how about making the right decision?. it is time for every - body to be acquainted to this verity - especially the leaders of our 'COUNTRY' with the aim of acquiring wealth (accumulation of wealth), it is certain that we are taking non to the grave. |

Any body aspiring to any position of leadership in the country does so because it is the only veritable way out of the constricting grip of poverty. Once you get in, the treasury is at your mercy and you are not answerable to any bbody. So far, it is good business for them but one day, what happened in Indonesia to Surhato will happen to them. You can only cover your bad governance by encouraging someone who will be worse to replace you. Yaradua is mainly treading Obasanjo's footsteps of corruption and self-enrichment. At least I personally know what his useless son Gbenga Obasanjo was like in 1993/94 at UI and what he and his greedy sister Iyabo are like now. These same bad leaders preach peace at every opportunity to calm people down. Unfortunately what can not be achieved in peace will be achieved through shedding of blood. ... While your pictures speak of a presumed life of affluence, you have presented no hard evidence of that. As to Umaru's wealth, it is up to the Code of Conduct Bureau and the Internal Reevenue Sservice to peruse his declarations and conclude whether what he declared was true or not. It is time we stop dragging down every Nigerian who rose to a prominent position. The schools in Katsina are a reflection of Nigerian society; the North in particular. The education system has collapsed and today no governor in the north can claim to have provided portable water to even 50% of his people. We the people must overcome our timidity and selfishness and face reality. The people we decide to elect must be the ones' to represent us or else .. " the bird that prays for rain wil evebtually get drenched! That is the only point when we cast stones at others. ... Dear Nigerians and other readers, We do not need to see all these photographs to judge what our President is doing or what memebers of his family have become. The position of a natio's president is juicy that it can make anyone to become rich overnight. Will you talk about gifts, donations, several allowances, and the legitimate salary for him and his aids, all these are enough to mahe President and his family richer now. But man can never be satisfied, until he finally sees himself in the grave. Whatever the case may be, no one can ever remain the same in life. President Yar'dua and his family, according to the photograph of their old days have witnessed a brief poverty whatever the magnitude, when on earth do you want them to enjoy being a member of Allah's creatures on earth?. I think it is their own destiny that he and his family will have the taste of the most prestigeous position in a nation, Nigeria, i am not equally saty that he ( President Yar'adua is a saint neither do i disagree with consructive criticism of his administration as that method is one of the best ways to make any administration be aware of its derailment. All we need to remember is that many Nigerian political leaders have come and gone, none of them lived a poor life, therefore, his could be seen as the least when comparing to what we read, read and heard of our previous leaders in terms of wealth acquisition. if the current President can make the electricity as only part of our infrastructure to work, so that we use light in Nigeria round the clock without distruption, i think we all we look elsewhere for the next thing we can do to move Nigeria foward. What is happening to a wealthy country like Nigeria, which does not know how wisely it can make use of the proceeds of its abundant resouces should be seen as a natural course. What is the percentage of what President Yar'adua could be taking from Nigerian wealth today that should make us feel bad, afterall, he is, despite the state of his health doing all he could to make the nation remain in peace. What will you tell of thiose who ruled our nation with sound health but reaped the land of its resources to the exhaustive stage. Allah has something against us as a whole. We need to sit down and think of what and how we can resolve our differences, hatred and ask for forgiveness of all the percecuted innocent ones in the history, their shadow is still chasing away success and unity in this country. It is in Nigeria that bloody corrupt leaders are gorgeously dressing , attending functions and donating enomous amount of money for private, state or national engagements and no one questions the source of their money but instead, we clapped heavily for them. When are we going to be wise? Nigerians do quickly forget their past humiliating experiences, most of us forget the pain of our wound. Do not blame Yar'adua and his family, Allah has destiny for all. You will have opportunity to blame him when he finally finished his tenure without success. What will you say of those who have ruled Nigeria, syphon the public money to parade themselves as one among the most wealthy ones in the world, they still nurse the determination to rule and cheat us again, are we not stupid if that could happen to us ?. We need to seek for Allah's forgivess on what our past leaders have done under the pretex of protecting the fall of the nation, it is after that that we shall be strong enough to overpower the unscupulous few ones rulling us. Now they use all sort of Islamic values to disrupt the peace of this nation, while the innocent ones are being killed and their blood is flowing on our streets, though, Allah knows who is really whoshipping Him, those individuals that are sponsoring this crisis will not go unpunished, the leader of that "Book haram" might heve been killed, i think just to conceal those who were sponsoring the movement, but they forget that Allah whose creatures were killed for unjust course will turn His face away from exposing the papetrators of the deadly crisis. He will judge our deeds. |

It is high time for Govt to provide enabling environment where people can easily start their own business and thrive. Not everyone of us we become the president or the governor but enabling society will give birth to business growth and also encourage foreign investors that willbe willing to invest in the country. ... When some of us call that British failed experiment a FAILED STATE, some of us hypocritical Nigerians will stand up to defend stupidity, making them look even more stupid! There is no hope for that failed experiment! It can either be started afresh or peacefully dissolved. Talk about dissolving the North (Which so called president was once a governor), has made it clear that they are no longer under the supremacy of the so-called Nigerian constitution. Mr Yar Adua, was one of those Talibans that introduced Shariah in the 11 states of the North, in a country that claim to be a 'secular state'! Is that not madness? No they know what they are doing. They know the entity is never a state in the first place so they caved out their nation while milking the remaining oil from the south and shouting ONE NIGERIA. Now when the so called 'Boko Haram' sponsored by the northern Taliban governor, including Mr. President, wanted to practice what he was thought and trained for, they killed innocent people, in pretence that they are dealing with the problem of 'extremists' in name of so-called leaders. The mad almajiri of Zamfara that is having nightmare of transforming Nigeria to a Sharia nation, succeeded in converting other northern states to the sick political hypocrisy of cutting the poor peoples hand while the main criminals the still public fund is crowned and celebrated. None of them has ever got his or her head cut off. Is that what we call a Nation? A state with so-called secular system? A failed state is an understatement. |

We are talking public funds here!!we are talking about a country that should not be where it is today!!we are talking about a country that is nor war-torn but no substantial growth!!we are talking about a country that has borrowed money with a plan to solve its problem regardless of mass revenue natural resources and has failed woefully!!a country...i can't continue bcos its so laughably sad and i know majority of my countrymen cant help but think its all a rollercoaster ride. it is like this - average man cum governor cum one of the richest men on earth. personally,I think this President might just be the one that might be able to hold it all down before the kettle boils over..but the problem is that it is a herculian task in that is like throwing stones in the market place, in this case these stones needs to be thrown but the market itself has more stones to throw back..follow. (when u fight corruption, corruption fights back).should he really be serious and start it,he would be overwhelmed how much support he will get both locally and internationally. so its better the elite clique and their political goons sort the mess out NOW before the mess sort them out-for their own good. Politics is the only legitimate SCAM!! food for thought.......how did the British Monarch survive till this day even with democracy? smart eh? |

Please enjoy my riddle.. Nelson mandela fought for freedom of his people, was imprisoned(for how many decades?),released and became the president of South africa. olusegun obasanjo fought to keep the country together so the status quo is maintained, became the head of state, was later imprisoned by a former junior officer [who later became head of state(wanted to retain power forever)]and later - again became the president and wanted to stay on forever. (I am quite sure obj wasn't giving enough time to show the nation his true patriotic side, haba!!) TWO Similar true hero stories, or should I say who is more of a hero, or was it because obj only served a shorter term in jail and longer term serving as head of state and 8yrs as president(in two different decades)-lol(should I laugh or cry -pls advice) Madueke -you sold nigerians properties in United States for no reason, the money from the sales is no where to found or accounted for,and no one should ask you because you are now so so up there in the clique of untouchables..well God dey oh!! lucky igbinedion, I hail oh,hows your guy james ibori, una dey sha!! |

... I do not believe in Nigeria anymore as they have never been a nation called "Nigeria" as they would have us all believe. What we have always have is a clique of people who within them have controlled and squandered all the resources amongst themselves- these people are the "Nigerians", the rest of us are like personal properties of these peoples whether we like it or not, it has never been an issue of North vs South or whatsover. We do have Nigerian passports but that means nothing in this sphere, if you want to become a "Nigerian" without having the natural rights by birth as you see in this article then you must somehow find your way in this clique..and then you, your family and future generations will become "Nigerians". No matter what we say here in saharareporters,it dont mean anything until we realized what needs to be done and do it effectively once and for all...but no matter what we do, these people(Nigerians) and children/families will have to pay back all these money and contempt they have treated the real people over the decades..It really baffles me when people champion the late MKO Abiola and the likes as true leaders when we all know they are part and parcel of this "Nigeria"clique and the problems they keep inflicting on the real populace, interestly you see, when the factions of the "Nigerians" fall out between themselves over which clique within the cliques rules, we the fools tends to support one over the other without any knowledge of what is actually going apart from the picture painted and shown to us by these same "Nigerian". Its truly a ver SAD story indeed and Obasanjo is one very big "Nigerian" and that brings this question back to life - "Who really murdered Murtala Mohammed". |

... Enough! What proof do we have that Yaradua has looted the Treasury? Must we always pull down leaders only to mourn them afterwards? The seat of a State Governor or the President is very "rich, exalted and blessed" and anyone who occuppies it is transformed. Look at the big churches - dont the wealth of churches rub off the leaders, Take a haggard rifraff, give him a Bank job - at the end of 6 months you wont recognise him anymore. It is only a natural phenomenon! We must all learn to attack bad ideas, policies and work NOT the personality of the individual. We Africans all come from one poverty stricken society or the other. We should show respect and recognise the privacy of the other person. We offend and question ALmighty God when we question his work. I am just a reader and seek nothing but fairness. To God we issue and to Him we shall return to give account of our utterances both written behind fake names and real names. May God bless all true believers and those seeking after the truth. Amen. |

... For us to attain the destiny we have to be objective in our candid opinions. Forget about pix or no pix, humble begining begining or no humble begining, the fact is that we don't have leadership in this country. From classroom to workplaces, from judiciary to legislature to executive including those that are making comment in the pages of newspapers. A nation is govern by the leader that suit the settings of the people. It is the followers that can change the leadership, the leaders cannot change on they own until the attitude of the followers change. Your destiny is in your own hands. You may wish to keep it. Lastly, fight against do or die election, money politics, and you shall get good leaders that are people oriented. |

Rather, it shows how a family has strougle to achieve better standard of leaving in todays world. Every reasonble being, will always aspair for change and improvement in life. I feel for Musa Yar'adua co's this is the price he has to pay to serve his father land. A retrospective view of past public officers will show that each of them as equally faced one or more types of critism. ... While it must be said that a transformation has indeed taken place in the lives of the family of Musa Yar’adua, the basis for the conclusion of greed was however not clearly argued out. As the publication is from the Sahara Reporters in New York, I must quickly say this is one attempt to check the relevance of one of Africa’s rulers again. After all, we all must have our yesteryears if we are to have a tomorrow; a fact of life! Imagine if this people grab some of the pics of when you & I were young, playing with only pants on in the rain tomorrow, oh, what a piece they will write about our relevance at the time. The depiction of the pics is a bias conclusion just like is the fact that his daughters are married to prominent people in the country. At least, none is married to Obama, Clinton & Bush. Pictures are known to be judged by the descriptions they carry rather than the true contents relating to life. The article is bias! Not to get me wrong however, I am not a supporter of this regime of Government (with the exception of Lagos State of course) neither am I a fan of the Yar’adua family. The truth must be told at all times and that includes the Yar’adus regime. I spent a year in Daura Local Govt of Katsina state at the time of Yar’adua as Governor and I experienced his Government before he had the opportunity of frolicking with the larger turkeys and I cried loud when he was picked by the puppet master as a perfect replacement. My cry was not misconceived as this was a ruler whose state lived on the glory of the regime of the earlier northern rulers of the nation. He made little effort to better the lives of his people and I must add that: • It was in his regime that Katsina state lost the good name of the peaceful state and recorded violence of high magnitude including the killing of some youth corpers • Schools were a total write off and nowhere when compared with the standards obtainable in the SW region • Roads were no better than they were years before • Illiteracy was not bettered, or was it not claimed that he was a lecturer? • Water was.... or did I just say water? I meant pure water All that is just to mention the barest few Never in the history of this nation have we experienced so much backwardness (not stagnation) with all the intellectual arsenal we pose. The tale of a man appointed by the crafty puppet master himself (Aremu) should not have been expected to be pleasant and may not have a good ending as well. Do you think OBJ would opt for a docile politician with total ignorance of the power of the pen? A perfect green-in-green, we all witnessed how he craftily played his puppet master out of the game and took charge of his own strings only to sleep and fall ill regularly on the hot seat. He recently warned IBB off by declaring that there is no vacancy at Aso Rock in 2011 (a sad news that only means his Govt will continue by the PDP way – Do or die) and is even on record for dismissing ministers who dared call him while on hospital bed that they heard he was dead. Yar’adua is simply no toothless bulldog and he has done quite well to show that he can be strong on the job as well. Abi now, how else can you describe the salary cuts for political appointees, no power supply at all (investors running on fuel 24/7), a shameless police force, a JTF killing and raping citizens they were asked to defend and with no single institution working fine in the country? Yet, all the monies from tax, oil and the several sources have not been enough. We still take loans from the world bank while he has recently changed his purse to a bigger one. Yar’adua is just on a mission to grow his networth by unbelievable margins and saying he is greedy may not be the word, after all, IBB made it to the world’s top ten richest people in the world while in govt and Abacha was close to same only to be cut short by divine intervention. Let him enjoy his Govt, after all, a second chance may not.... (ah!) Who knows tomorrow? I agree absolutely with the words of Professorless Iwu who said The US have lessons to learn from the May 2007 election in Nigeria. True, they have! |

... True, the first family should not go about in rags. True, it's not our business who they marry (no matter how comical the matches seem). What I would like to follow up is the N50m to N900m claim and the claims of Turai's power-broking. Can these be proven? if so, by all means, let's get the investigative reporting going. It may never catch the EFCC's attention (they probably don't have the time to read online reports), but at least it will be factual and not sensational. Finally, kudos to teh guy who suggested ways in which we can start making a difference, taking a stand against corruption. As an aside, where are all these guys who contested gubernatorial and presidential elections in 2007? This is the time they are supposed to start their grassroots campaign: Duke, Utomi, Pastor Chris, Jimi Agbaje, etc? If you wait till 2010, it will be too late and by then the money bags and criminals will be sharing money again Please learn from history. They use you to sabottage the ecnomy! Those we see as evil cannot succeed if the abacha in every nigerian is not stronger than the will to be a better and bigger nation. The problem with nigeria stems from the man who complains most..... the masses. It is the masses who help the thieves to evade tax, to steal crude oil etc. They cannot be there if we say no. The poor is the militant for the rich and corrupt. Where is the list they got from tompolo's camp5? It has vanished because those who are involved are those rule the nation? Now we're talking about amnesty! Shame on nigeria! However all hopes are not lost because our own Jerry Rawlings will surely come. If not today, it'll come tomorrow so long the dividends of democracy continues to elude our people while the thieves thrieve. The destruction of all human, material, and natural resources going on in the niger delta tells you that things are not working well in the nation called nigeria. |

... I am totally disappointed in this "God will judge" attitude of my fellow Nigerians. Are we not cowards? We have so many practical experiences to emulate: Ukraine, Argentina, Ghana and Iran but we prefer to hand over everything to God, while God on the other hand says he can only help those who help themselves. I don’t encourage anything violent or against the law but it is time to revolt. 1. We need to educate our parents and siblings on the danger of collecting money, rice or other inducements from politicians during campaign. Stress the importance of voting and protecting the vote. 2. It is time to encourage educated, smart, well traveled and well meaning young men/women to get involved in politics. Get ready to dole out our hard earned cash to support or finance them to curb the absolute control of the greedy Godfathers. 3. Finally, we must get out of our comfort zones to defend our country whenever it is raped and violated by the likes of OBJ and Maurice Iwu in the name of ELECTION. A fake professor who could not hold a credible election in one state (Ekiti) cant be INEC chairman but in a country of "Let God judge" cowards, that is all we deserve. Yaradua and his family is stealing because the people b4 him were never rebuked by anybody. EFCC is for yahooboys and government enemies. Take a look at what is happening now in the british parliament, Iran election crisis. OBJ set a legacy of selective judgement, corruption etc. He tried in some aspect of his eight years but he had enough time to fix the power sector which is vital to any developing country. I think the administrator of this site or Saharareporters should bring up a better topic which will enlighten our people and even educate people more on the political propaganda perpertuated by politicians and public office holders. We shouldn't waste our time talking of Yar' adua and family, rather let's talk about the implementation of electoral reform recommendations, which will help to usher in credible people into our polity. Let's talk about the power sector and criticise all the delay tactics. Let's talk about the 'Northernisation' of Nigeria. Let's talk about rebranding and the gains of it. Show me one pro-democracy activist, show me one social crusader, show me one social critic who has had the opportunity to serve in Nigeria that has not used his office fraudulently. This is really worrisome. It is disheartening. My hope on a new Nigeria has been dashed by the outgone Olusegun Obasanjo led government who in my own estimation believed , having escaped death by the whiskers, will be ready to lay down his life, if that will be his legacy in bringing about a renewed Nigeria. If only he battled corruption with all intent for his eight year reign, by now all other failed infrastructure would have fallen in place. He threw the opportunity overboard! ... Now, that we have known the background of our first family, we can now compare the past and present, to be able to appreciate the sorry situation we have found ourselves today in Nigeria. It is now time for us to ask ourselves questions. Where would the Yar'Adua's have found themselves if not for the petro-dollars from the Niger Delta region? Obviously, they would be wallowing away in poverty in one remote village in Katsina. Unfortunately, it is in this same Niger Delta that Umaru Yar'Adua is pursuing ethnic cleansing under the guise of fighting militants. Anyway, I am sure that as soon as he leaves power, the international war crimes tribunal will declare him wanted like they did to Sudanese despot, Al Bashir. As for Zainab and Nasifat, I dont begrudge them for being toast of governors. I am sure that most of these governors wouldn't have ordinarily gone for them if they are placed side by side with millions of other beautiful Nigerian girls prostituting on the streets, simply because they don't have jobs. But the governors want a second term and know that any marital relationship with the first family would assure them re-election. But in all these, the Nigerian masses seem to be the losers. Today, academic activities in all our universities have been paralyzed by ASUU strike. The crisis in the power sector is worsening. Electricity situation is worse than epileptic as Nigerians now see flashes of light, the gsm way. Yar'Adua promised us 6000 megawatts by December but we have not seen any sign that he is working towards that. The anti-corruption war has lost steam. our road infrastructure remains nothing to write home about. The health sector remains in a pitiable state. The economy is in shambles and he is not even ready to reform the electoral process. |

... I took my time to analyse each and every comment made and I came to one clear conclusion, most of the Northern respondents saw nothing wrong in looting the treasury while their southern counterparts condemn it. This is the problem wth the country called Nigeria, the orientation, philosophy, idea, believe, culture and religion of the Northerners is retrogressive to the country's development. How unfortunate we are in the South of Nigeria to be lumped up with these Northerners by Lord Lugard. |

... GANIYU I am mentioning you by name because I want to direct my coments to you. Since you sound like one of those people who make excuses for government by condemning all Nigerians. Since you imply that we are not better that the Yar Aduas who appear to have stolen billions, if all Nigerians have also stolen billions would they be complaining? If all the solution Nigeria needs is for each one of us to change our behavior who will arrest the criminals? At what time should we start arresting the criminals and at what time do we start condemning what is going on? You tell Nigerians what they need to do to change but I cannot read your advice to the real thieves -the politicians. We were warned about a tsunami of 700 hired Cyber Counterinsurgents and we have started seeing their handiwork. They all say nobody paid me to say what I am saying as if any of them would admit getting paid. " Every Nigerian is corrupt" "show me the evidence of corruption against the politicians" and "you will do the same if given the chance" are some of the terminologies of this school of thought and gradually we are getting to know the exponents. You obviously sound like one of them. We are not talking about the benefit of once office. We are talking about stealing. If there is somebody out there who knows any of laws that makes the right to loot the treasury a benefit of the office of the presidency please let me know. |

... I have read almost all the comments penned here and can only conclude that "none of us is better than any of us" You mentioned greed, as if Nigeria is the only country in this world where politicians leverage on their position and contacts to make money. Look at the US, stroll through Europe and the likes of Italian head of state, the French one, some shamelessly taking money from people like the late Omar Bongo, the defence contracts involving sons and daughters of big time politicians in Europe etc, the big oil pipelines deals and those of them sitting at the EU parliament stitching and lining their pockets, through their cronies who carry out EU funded assignments. U have endless list and in fact look through Asia and then reconsider your puerile character assassination here. The fact is that Nigeria is corrupt and sick and we need to clean the place. It starts from the individual, though leadership has a lot of the blame. We should represent the change we seek and not all the time assuming higher moral authority by critisizing politician and people in government. Go to any gathering in London, they all have their answers to ridding Nigeria of its current mess, same when you listen to Nigerians in the USA, and all of them without the courage to do anything back home. Our president is not worst than the village school headmaster who mismanages the little cash he is given to run the school, or the school principal, the high court judges, taking money to fix elections (long list of them), the cab driver out there cheating the hell out of you in Lagos, or the serving and retired NEPA directors and officers, PHCN where they supply vegetable oil as transformer oil, ( A simple 300MW per year since 1981 would have saved us all this NEPA hassle, at least we should have almost 10000MW additional capacity), even those shameless and lowly ones who will demand bribe so as not to disconnect your light. Or shall we focus on the lecturers who steal and deceive in the name of endless hand outs to students, the Vice Chancellors stealing through contracts awarded to cronies. Do we refer to those police men on our highways, so corrupt and smelly like a rotten placenta, where do we start?? Think about the local government chairmen and their officers, the governors and their army of special advisers?? Think of the Inspector general of Police and his commissioners who are in bed with armed robbers and kidnappers ravaging Niger delta and the eastern states of Nigeria? Where do you start?? To single this family out is just not on. For all you know, this man didn’t come from a poor background, you are all shouting how slow he is, but you know, history will always vindicate the just. Nigerians will be the ones crying for him to come back in a few years time. This article is silly and petty. Its just designed to dampen people’s resolve and spread misguided opinion. I beg you guys not to publish this sort. You will loose your credibility. Even if you decide to publish this sort, back it u with hard facts and figures and not mere hearsays. All these people shouting, I doubt how many of them on this notice board wouldn’t fall to the trappings of high political position. Look at yourself first before you throw a stone at this man and his family. Nigeria can be fixed and for all you know it can readily be fixed within 10 yrs. We all just need to work hard and apply the rule of law across board. |

... This shows clearly that Nigerians, we are on our own. Our Govenment does not have any plan for us as citizens of other climes enjoy. In 2 wks time, over 15,000 corp members will join the labour market, in the US, their jobs would have been arranged awaiting their passing out, but here, one would rather wish the service year does not end, at least you are sure of the allowee to keep body & soul together instead of the terrible life as a job applicant. Bill Gates who legally and genuinely made his wealth from business was magnanimous enough to donate a large chunk of his wealth to the cause of charity : Can any of our billionaires in Nigeria sacrifice even 10 billion naira for the cause of humanity even in their own constituencies? They would rather die in Aso rock on top of the dollars that were stollen from all of us. Every day the national assembly, instead of their primary duty of passing bills, are busy on oversight functions of investigating panels and enquiries into fraudulent acts by themselves and to make a fool of us, nobody has ever been improsoned on account of this since 1999 to date. You can imagine someone stealing 100 naira and you collect 20 naira from him after he had bribed the investigators with 10 naira. What good has that done to the rest of us? Infact it will only encourage others to go ahead and steal 200 naira knowing that worse comes to worst, he will only refund kpata kpata, 70 naira and be a free man again like Tafa Balogun, Ndidi Elumelu, Senator NicholasUgbane, Former IGP Ehindero and the list is endless. I'm loosing my cool Nigerians. Let us pray harder because as it is we are clearly on our own. |

... What a shame? To Nigeria and it's people. This is not the first time we hear stuffs like this backed up with facts.... My problem with this nation is that we are toothless bulldogs. All we know is to get access to information like this and discuss it over the pages of news papers, TV, radio and showcase our ability to speak grammer. It ends there! Nigerians wake up and take your destiny in your hands.....Everybody calls the name of God and ask God to come and help. God will come down and help you? other nations of the world would not tolerate 1/10th of bitter pills Nigerian take from a select few of demented cabals that call themselves leaders. Iran went gaga over an election that was labelled fraudulent. Nigeria on it part, would simply speak grammer and thereafter everybody goes home. Enough of the grammers, self pity and pity parties. We need revolution!!! All we need is just One person that will rise up to the occassion and that revolution, movement or whatever that will put a stop to this nonsense! Otherwise, Nigeria will remain a dark country until the end of ages. ... It is good to talk about the very bad things these people are doing even though some may say it's a wast of time but my fellow citizens information is power we are better of knowing so maybe one the enough people would realize that the only way forward is to get rid of every single one of these criminals also part of the solution is in realizing there is a problem, knowing is one thing realizing is another. There is not point waiting for God or Allah to punish them instead we must pray for God or Allah to give us the testicular fortitude to face up to them and defeat them, you can pray all you want but they would still be there in the morning to rape, punish and try to rob Nigerians of their dignity. Some of them like that old fool call Obasanjo would even go as far as to try to convince so use he is a God fearing man quoting verses from the bible and making references the vents in the holy book but my friends the proof in in the podding. He and a lot of his co conspirators even fraternize with our so called men of God my brothers there are more false prophets in Nigeria than the rest of the world added together. How can you call these men, men of God ninthy present of them are hustlers playing on the vulnerability of their fellow Nigerians who have been so broken in mind, body and spirit that one they any promise of freedom from abject poverty wins them over but the truth is 99% of their flock would remain poor fact and after gaining fame, popularity and power what do they do they start fraternizing with these common criminals. when you have leaders of churches rolling out the red carpet for crooks like Ibori does it not say it all. There pastors have hundreds of thousands of followers and they are role modes for a lot of people so if they keep company of criminals does that not confuse that youth about right or wrong. We have been and remain at a place in Nigeria where the word integrity does not have a use it is not needed in our vocabulary even our so called " royal fathers" have all turned hustlers in a country where the Iboris and his still practicing 419 senators and the rest have them in their pockets ? In the finally analysis it is quite aboviuos that this nonsense can not continue for much longer for the brazen " I don't give a dam" attitude of these criminals is going to be their undoing. They are ridding on the back of a tiger and must be consumed by it , and let me tell you why , they have consistently gotten more prolific in their stealing better in their mismanagement all trying to out do each other in under performing, that I believe at the risk of being called a prophet of doom that Nigerian would be a failed state it is not a mater of if, but when. If noting is done about these retards there would be total breakdown. I know Nigerians are the toughest of the tough, but there is a breaking point and when we reach there no one would have e a choice. |

By all standard Yar'Adua's family is wealthy even before he assumed office as governor of Katsina. It is in the same SR we read what the latest Nigerian fugitive and new found darling of SR (el-Rufai) told us about Yar'Adua's humble family background. Which are we going to use el-Rufai's testimony of SR manipulation of pictures to create the impression of a terrible poor family for Yar'Adua. A beg let us address issues not personality or family. |

It's good and important to talk about it, for realizing you have a problem is a start, but it is important to act, forget about God and Allah punishing them we should pray for God or Allah to give us the testicular fortitude to face up to these criminals and get rid of them at all cost. I am impressed by the courage of the Iranians if they would archive their aim or not remains to be seen, but before any Government in Iran Rigs an election or does not make it transparent enough they would have a long think about it . We can got to all the churches in Nigerian and abroad and listen about all the miracle that can happen, but these criminals would still be there waithing to rape their fellow citizens in body mind and spirit and take away their dignity and some like that old fool called Obasanjo would even have the guts to say he was chosen by God and act like he is religious and believes in the scriptures but by the things they get up to it is definitely an act for he surely is not stupid enough not to know that the way he ran the country to the ground is not the way a person with a conscience and has the fear of God would do . In the back ground there are thousands of so called men of God who the people look up to, they gain position and power and great wealth and what do they do, they use that position to gain access and fraternize with these criminals and on the other hand promise to facilitate financial break through for their flock , there would be no financial break through for 99% of their followers -but they hope and pray - till we get rid of these crooks. I have finally stopped hearing Nigerians say E go betta, or Nigeria go betta and thats a step froward because people are beginning to realize that E no go betta anything, till we take out country form there animals because quite frankly they are the the wost Nigerian have to offer these are people without integrity in fact that word is dead in the Nigerian political circle is filled with con men and murders not forgetting our so called " Royal fathers" who are hustlers with nothing to offer their people. There are countries all over the world who do not have one hundredth of what we have in terms of mineral and human recourses, who have performed miracles the have squeezed water out of stone they are not half as religious as us and they have made unbelievable progress that has led me to believe that we are being lead by false prophets who have failed in other endeavours then decided that they have been called by by God to spread the gospel. Thanks for all supporters of Nigeria revolution,i want to let you all know that our revolution is on course,we are working towards it and we will strike most of the corrupt politicans in the next few months since they have refused to use the oil wealth to develop all the geopolitical zones in Nigeria. We strongly commend MEND for the wonderful attacks on the oil pipelines which we are hoping that the oil exports will be grounded to zero in the next two months,as the oil export has dropped from 1.78million barrels to 900,000 barrels as of today 23rd June,2009.We are working towards GROUND ZERO oil export in Nigeria and we hope to achieve this in 2 months time.(Reason for this revolution no.1-To stop the inflow of oil money to Nigeria so that the so-called government will call for True Federalism where everyone will benefit from the oil money, because sharing of oil money among the ruling class has made political offices so lucractive and attractive in Nigeria. We will stop the inflow of the oil money so that they will not have any oil money to share again and this will create conflict between the so-called power brokers and we will use that opportunity to carry out revolution no.2 which will be tagged"OPERATION MASSACRE OF THE CORRUPT RULING CLASS". We will move to the next level after the ground zero export in few months and we will keep you posted........... |

While I believe that the Yaradua government is a very corrupt one , 50million naira in 1999 money would definitely not be 50 million in 2007 and come to think of it the pictures are not from 1999 when he declared 50 millions but sometimes in the 70s or 80s so why dont SR show us pictures of 1999 when he declared 50 million. SR know what they are doing. It is called spin and it is a known fact that most people react to picture faster than written words and as the saying goes, A picture is worth more than a thousand words. We can only win this war against our oppressors by not putting them into positions where they can claim victimization and thereby neutralizing our agitations against their rule. |

... I keep wondering why is Nigeria so unfortunate? And why are Nigerians so docile? How could someone like this-Malam Umaru mUsa Yar'dua of all people in the Northern parts of Nigeria and educated as well as intelligent competent elites did not get picked up for the position of president except someone like Umaru mUsa Yar'dua who is not healthy, not knowledgible, not competent and viable was selected and imposed on Nigeria. Now today,Nigeria is a phariah state and anything has to do with Nigeria is seen as traud, corruption and electoral-rigging and manipulation. The people are seeking deeper into huge-poverty hole nationally while this emanciated man who can not even run his own life without his corrupt wife and children supports could be made the decider of the fate of the lives of millions of Nigerians?Though! Nigerians maybe innocent but Nigerians are corrupt, docile and can not stand up for their fundamental rights and take over the running of their nation from this set of unviable, incompetent and corrupt leadership foisted on them by PDP-rogues.Very unfortunate. The fact is that Nigerians are sleeping in the bed just how Nigerians layed their beds, period!Or what can we say or read into this type of unworthy bunch of sick and corrupt inept president uMaru Musa Yar'dua.Nigeria is furhter sinking deeper into comatose and leading to total oblivion Dr Pat Kolawole Boboye,Canada. |

... Ribadua should take a huge blame for removing Yaradua´s name from the corruption dossier. Had they sent him to jail and confiscated his loots, be much the better for conventional wisdom and Nigerians at large. President Yaradua and his entire family´s involvement in their notorious marriage of convenience is geared towards political expediency and the crave to remain relevant always. It´s a pity that his daughters are not given away for love´s sake but for spoils of capitalism and lust for dirty lucre. It´s Tina Turner who sang 'what´s love got to do with it?' The feelings Yaradua daughters have for their men and those their husbands have for them are 'second hand emotions.' That is, if you follow Tina Turners music. Sahara Reporters has done it again! You´re rock solid like the Rock of Gibraltar. No weapon formed against SR shall prosper. I´ve said it that while SR will keep rising, its enemies will keep falling. With the exemption of Leadership Newspaper, shame to all other conventional print Media in Nigeria. Since president Yaradua has refused to put his hands where our eyes can see, Sahararepoters.com will continue to let us see what he´s hiding underhandedly, in his hands. |

From the marriages of their daughters, it is very clear that Turai is a greedy lady who wants to secure her future comfort at the expenses of their children. ... Most of you guys are blind. It's not even the pictures. Somebody goes from N50 milliion to N900 million in four (4) years and you don't see a problem with that? We are not talking about a business man but a politician. If he was running a business or businesses that employ nigerians, then we should not complain. Corruption in Nigeria starts from the top and trickles down to the common police man on the highway. |

... This photo essay is not constructive; we all have humble beginnings and look better at periods of relative wealth. These pictures are typical of the average Nigerian families; be it pious or corrupt. The corrupt side of the first family can be criticized directly. We do not expect the first family to use leaves for their weddings. This is a very cheap black mail. Yaradua is lacking in many fronts, but please be very constructive and address issues head on. |

... Its only a fool that will say he/she is not moved by those pix. All I know is that a day is coming when each of us will pay for our actions. What annoys me most is the fact that these are criminals of the highest order with no regard for fairness nor justice, yet they claim they are innocent and being persecuted by reporters. Every hausa man defends his/her siblings but not so the yoruba's ,Ibos and Deltans. If their leaders were serious they wouldn't have allowed their wealth to be brazenly stolen and show cased to the entire world. Fellow Nigerians, the more we keep quiet the more these evils will continue. Let us arise for a revolution: A bloody revolution. In the 80's i go to school and buy things with 1 kobo and 5 kobo but today these coins are no more, in 1993 I both 65 litres of fuel with 27 naira today it cant buy a litre. I say Arise or else our children will become slaves to these children. Its better to fight and die than to stupidly keep quiet, give birth to kids who will suffer what we are going through or worse and die a foolish death. |

... Hmm ... these pictures tell nothing except that Yar'Adua has very beautiful daughters. I am surprised that Sahara Reporters focused only on the daughters ... why not show us pictures of Umaru Yar'Adua prior to 1999 and his pictures today ... perhaps, we will see that he has actually lost weight and all glamor. Would that be an indication that he has refused to collect his salary as president in solidarity with the suffering Nigerian mass? or that he has repented and returned all ill-gotten wealth to the treasury? Please, show us pictures of Ribadu and El'Rufai (and their families) prior to 1999 and their pictures today. Show us images of the most ardent pro-democracy and human rights activists (and their families)in the 1980's and their pictures today. You will find that either like Yar'Adua they look much worse or like the Yar'Adua kids, they look much better. Either way, change (especially in human physiognomy) is a constant. |

... This is sensational, but as a good citizen of Nigeria,i will want to know whether there is a statute in Nigeria constitution that stipulates that we can sue public office holders after the end of there tenure ? If so,while the Sahara reporters are busy gathering this information, wouldn't it be very wise on the part of the people i mean Sahara to compile as much of this type of information as possible and institute a civil proceeding against individual where there is sufficient and ample evidence to prosecute such people both home and abroad such that they will not just profit from the largess, but be sentenced to jail,if not here, but anywhere in the world. There has to be a way to ascertain true wealth and stolen wealth most especially when someone gets out of government and they buy private jet,own choice property,it can not be through legal means but through corrupt practices. |

... While it is obvious that the Yaradua government is corrupt as most past leaders of the country had been, I think these photographs being shown is in bad taste. I bet you all SR workers and including myself if you show our pictures back then we would all look different and poor. I think SR should stick to issues and not become a sleazy magazine that would make people not to take it serious. We complain about these people morals and we should not descend so low by getting at their kids. Others may not agree with me on this, but i think just like your previous pictures on their son this is in bad taste. Please, this website is not Ovation and we are not interested in gossip news but more on facts as they affect the country. I do not see how Turai jewelries and who their daughters marry should concern us. |

... I am appalled by the statement of some people that Sahara Reporters are being tribalistic. When they lampooned OBJ, it was an acceptable statement to them but if it is Yaraslow, it is a tribal statement. I am not against anybody with humble beginning to become very rich but such should not be at the expense of the nation and resorces (money) that belong to all Nigerians. Majority of those that call themselves millionaires or bilionaires in Nigeria are actually thieves and pen robbers. All the retired Generals/Politicians that are billionaires today, where did they get their tons of Naira from if not through stealing our money. How many of these rogues inherited millions of Naira from their parents. Parents of many of them are not even known talkless of having riches. If acurate data collection is done to ascertain those that are genuinely rich in Nigeria without stealing our money, may be only about 15% of those calling themselves millionaires/billionaires actually worked for their wealth. These people do not deserve our respect including Yar'Adua & his band of rogues like OBJ,IBB,Ahikomu,Dikko,Agagu, Ibori, Odili, Dariye, Saraki and so,so many to mention. For Nigeria to move forward, revolution is the answer. We cannot continue like this. In other civilized & progressive countries of the world, 1st families do not enrich themselves unnecessarily from the people's money. They do not live extravagant life style. They are moderate people with consideration for the people that they serve but unfortunately we don't see that in Nigeria. |

I would advise if such kind of exposure should be stopped by this media and concentrate on something that would assist our country grow as one nation , one destiny. Being a President's daughter is not a coincidence or accidental in its entirety, and having an expensive wedding is not a thing to discuss about as it had happened at so many places in this country. ... Much Ado over Nothing. There's nothing unusual about the first family cropping up wealth by the virtue of its position. This happens all over and it could be more sensational with the likes of past leaderships. Afterall there is the belief that ' one can be a pauper one day and multi millionaire the next' - in Nigeria (and other African states) with the right connections. However, the culture of 'secrecy' and lack of transparency can be challenged as making a lot of our past/present leaders and representatives unqualified and undeserving of the positions they hold. let us not forget religious acceptance of polygamy etc - this is not an issue and the business run for any spouse or offspring of a political office holder should not criminalise of label them as 'frauds'. The genesis of corruption is all over and it becomes opportunistic where examples of successive leadership has been tagged with the 'grab what you can while you're there' rationale. Nigeria needs to look beyond trivial challenges. We have a long way to go to diffuse the potentially explosive climate of oppression, suppression and autocracy. |

... Sahara reporters can certainly blow conjectures out of proportions. True reporting is a piece that is simultaneously verified. Nothing on this report is verified except the faces that we see on the pictures. Or is the granduer in the occasions meant to be the verification? Come on, daughters of presidents all over the world are supposed to have grand ceremonies. The only truth in the story is that wife or daughters of Yar'adua have managed to place their kins with people of power. But even then, is it not coincidental that a person with many daughters is a president? Who wouldn't want to grab one!!!!! |
