Former Chief Executive Officer of Oceanic Bank plc, Mrs. Cecilia Ibru, is in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC). She surrendered to officials of the commission at 2.45 PM Nigerian time today.
It was previously speculated that Mrs. Ibru had fled the country like her counterpart, Erastus Akingbola of InterContinental bank. She was
declared wanted by the agency, but while she was underground, she began a lawsuit that legal sources said gave her enough confidence to
meet with EFCC officials.
Officials of the anti-corruption agency, which has lost tremendous credibility locally and internationally in recent times, confirmed to Saharareporters that Mrs. Ibru is currently undergoing interrogation at the Ikoyi office of the commission.

In Jos, they want to appoint an Emir, in a place where Hausa/Fulani are settlers. They sent in Boko Haram fighters early this year to massacre the people. But the signs are there since June 2007 that the Yar’Adua government is a Jihadist government with its behaviour in the North and the Niger Delta and now they want to capture the Lagos economy. They want Fulanis to dominate everything and everywhere in Nigeria. When we will be smart enough to know that divided we fall and united we stand? The bank may have showed poor risk taking ability by not diversifying enough ( by the way - business in Nigeria is a phenomenal risk) The banks have contributed to the economic growth in the private sector. Ms Ibru contribution is awesome. We need to wait for the facts to come out. If she received kickbacks to grant loans then up goes a family name in smoke. Mr Lamido may have over reacted. What is the total assets of the bank compared to the paltry some they are injecting that justifies complete take over without consultation of the share holders? The situation may be precarious and it may set a bad precedent in a country full of lawlessness. I commend Mr Lamido for insisting on ore transparency. ... Let's be serious. What happenned to Societe Generalle & Savanah Bank Directors and Chairmen? These set of people are using depositors money to win elections and thereby looting all the more. I'm sure nothing meanignfull will happen to all the MDs arrested - Okocha lost $1M to SGBN. the basic problem we have is that laws cannot be enforced especially for the big guys and really there's no moral ground to hold someone who did or did not do her job well by granting loans when Nigerians that stole billions of dollars are in the corridors of power.. Gentlemen & Ladies, we need to channel our energy more in the following directions. 1. keep asking or pressing for electoral reforms. 2. Keep asking or pressing for FOI bill 3. get involved in the politics one way or the other.. 4. Let's chase those guys (Government) out!! We can all change this country, we have a lot at stake!! Let's arrest the nation's freefall, we can do it.... |

... Who want to invest in Nigeria? What corporation is making profit in Nigeria? Where are all the Nigerian elites galavanting all over the world in the name of seeking investor? This may be a good time for them to refund our money. I'm not talking about EFCC and Sanusi's garagara. Just remember Ribadu, I'm convience that this noise will soon pass. |

... I once wrote the the piece below as a parody of the whole bank debtors saga. WHO WILL SACK UMARU MUSA YARADUA FOR MIS-MANAGING NIGERIA? BREAKING NEWS! Sanusi Lamido sacks Yaradua as Nigeria's president, Appoints Pat Utomi interim president, dissolves the cabinet. Aoandooaka on the run. Ex-president to be place under full medical surveillance. ******************************************************* ********* In an unprecedented move aimed at sanitizing the rot in the Nigeria’s economic management, the powerful CBN Governor Mallam Sanusi Lamido yesterday fired the incompetent Aso Rock impostor Umaru Musa Yaradua for grossly mis-managing the Nigerian nation. This move is coming barely a week after the same yaradua approved the firing of five former bank MDs who have bled their once thriving banks dry. Sanusi Lamido immediately replaced Mr yaradua with a renowned economic expert professor Pat Utomi as interim president. Utomi is expected to inject fresh ideas into the system to recapitalize the badly depleted economy which has been deprived of progressive ideas for governance for upward of 10 years. Speaking exclusively to our reporters immediately after his swearing in, Utomi promised to take the nation to the Promised Land and justify the confidence reposed in him. Meanwhile, Sanusi Lamido has placed the Ex-president under full medical surveillance in far away Jeddah to prevent any attempted escape from the planet earth. Lamido believes the deficient style of governance for which Mr yaradua was notorious is responsible for the lack of electricity, good road, water, and the pervasive corruption in the polity. He has therefore promised to bring yaradua to full account, hence the need to prevent yaradua from escaping from this planet. In a similar development, the fixer of injustice in the immediate past administration of Yaradua, Mr kaase Micheal Aoandooaka has been declared wanted. The notorious ex-Injustice minister was said to have got wind of their impending sack and promptly escaped with his loot which were suspected to be largely proceeds of already fixed and concluded deals from the Ibori trial, the Ekiti re-run and the technical consultancy fees from his consultancy jobs done for the major Nigerian suspects in the Halliburton scandal. |

... EFCC should not be biased in the fight against corruption if it is to succeed. there are some high-profile Nigerias who have committed more corrupt acts than these people have allegely commited.so let the exercise be wholistic. in that way every body will hold them in high esteem. |

... ours is a country that do not have a clear cut to what it wants to achieve. sannusi has ended up creating suspicion in the minds of nigeria's correspondence banks. tell me how LC originating from CBN will be regarded overseas? more matured ways could have been adopted in recovering the non-performing loans rather than heating up the already fragile economy. |

... I would not like any meaningful Nigerians to be carried away with the current EFCC exercise on the bankers, it may be a total distraction of this go slower and sick government. they always wanted a scapegoat. I have no kobo or instrument or an assets with the financial system of Nigeria. The fuss of all this news on headlines is what I cannot comprehend, this is a civil matter that needs to be redress in court, why always, our approach, logic to something civil were turned into brutality, militancy and uncivilised manner. The spotlight of this exercise should be on the government at all levels, local government, senators, governors and senators. we are all stakeholders of this dear nation. we asked the so call government for freedom of information act since the turn to civilian government, to know the income and where our money is been appropriated to, no answered to this, but to cover their evil doing, the government are busy chasing up bankers for loan took out. even so 7 days, who are this people runnning the country. this behaviour carry a Big MOTIVES I cannot say. what needed doing is to follow the due process, seize the assets, or make it government control has a majority shareholder. of course, the central bank as to assert it authority over these banks that their books are not clean up in the inetrest of the depositors and the nation. but in a civilised manner. we are not given lashes to cow here to cross to the other road to eat some grass. this act cannot move me nor ever like the government until FOI act is enacted. This nation is rapidly going on a freefall |

... Arrange Masters!: Why had she waited for Yaradua to be back from Saudi Arabia before she gave herself up? There´s a designed here to fool the public - to make it seem as if Yaradua is serious about fighting corruption. They must´ve begged her to report with condition that nothing happens to her: just to show off that Yaradua has a big fish in his hand. Government that´d fake their personal weapon and display it as those returned by freedom fighters and militants can fix any thing dubious. Only until one of these big fishes get jailed, Nigerians wont take Yaradua and his EFCC serious. We´ve seen enough show-business via Yaradua and Farida. Enough for now, please. |

... She may have displayed poor judgement as a bank MD, therefore she can,t be trusted to manage a bank, anything else? I do not think that the EFCC has the brainpower to deconstruct the intricacies of these high level financial play, they are probably better suited chasing yahoo scammers in public cafes, or grandstanding about how they will deal with imaginary enemies, in the worst case scenario, she will "settle".........kini big deal? |

... This Fire Brigade approach to fighting 'corruption' accomplishes nearly nothing. Many things had to be wrong within the system in order for the'rot' in the banking system to get to the reported levels. The system of 'catch me if you can' is what is obtainable in Nigeria. OBJ reportedly took a 200 million Naira loan to buy stock in a public traded company that he created? Just a few days ago Mrs. Ibru was showered with all kinds of awards. Oceanic Bank was declaring profits as if they made monies printing NAIRA currency. Sometimes you wonder, with all the available human and natural resources, why things remained at stone age levels except corruption which continues to show remarkeable improvement in Nigeria. As soon as Mrs Ibru and the other Bank thieves are arraigned....... End of Story! They have the connection to buy first class justice in Nigeria. |
