Nigerian army reacts to video clips alleging Nigerian soldiers killed civilians in Jos

The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a video clip posted on a news web site and put into circulation via cell phones, projecting a scene where Nigerian soldiers were purportedly shooting innocent civilians during the recent civil unrest in Jos, Plateau State. The Nigerian Army finds the scenes projected in this video clip as very disturbing, particularly as the scene presented therein are directly at variance with the standards by which it has been known over the years. The army has investigated the allegations and has confirmed that the video clip in question was nothing but a wicked manipulation aided by application of current advancement in computer technology. It was obviously aimed at embarrassing the Nigerian Army while at the same time stirring up the polity.

Indeed, the information available to the Army has made it clear that, the video film clips in question was not shot in Jos as was claimed. The persons referred to as soldiers were manipulated images and certainly not Nigerian soldiers. The vehicle depicted in the film was not one of those used by the Nigerian Army in the Internal Security Operation in Jos. Furthermore, the three-lane road in the clip does not exist in Jos. This is a challenge to those circulating this video clips to be honest enough to identify with it and tell the public the details of the background of those shots.

The public is please advised to decipher between manipulated film shots and the reality of the tendencies of their own military. Indeed, it has never been in the character of the Nigerian Army throughout its experiences either in peace support operations abroad or in internal security operations at home to unleash such acts of brutality and illegality on citizens, let alone carry out summary and extra judicial execution as presented in the manipulated video film. The record of operations in Jos rather confirms the Nigerian Army’s exemplary character and belief in the rule of law. As done in similar operations, suspects were promptly handed over to the police for necessary legal action.

This army remains a professional Army built on high moral, ethical and disciplinary standards. The Nigerian Army continues to pride itself in its strict control measures and discipline which lays significant emphasis on when, where, and how the minutest aspect of weapons are applied.

The Nigerian Army wishes to seize this opportunity to assure the Nigerian people that notwithstanding these cruel manipulations and calculated plots to cause disharmony in the system, their military remains as strong, cohesive and formidable as ever.

A.C Olukolade, Brigadier General
  Director Army Public Relations

Sad! Sad! Sad!... Nigerian Army right from my schools days in Lagos still haven't changed. I remember when I use to walk through their barracks as a 12-13yrs old with my school friends. As we pass through we find them reserved and peaceful. But come the next day for instance whilst they are driving through Ikeja either onward to the Airport or returning you find to your astonishment how these Army personnel have turned into animals, beating anyone in sight who is still on the road whilst their illegal siren goes off. They intimidate both young and old, and yes the same school kids who pass through their barracks with koboko and guns. So my call to this General and others in the army who carry continous unlawful killing is if you have a conscience you will imprison these killers. Also all you army personnel will be answerable to your maker oneday. The lord will be the judge and executioner of your actions...

Dear General,

Nigerians would have respected your intelligence if you had substantiated your claims with a Video proof showing where these so called criminals are being detained. Show us that they are still alive.

It is however an insult to your rank, the military and to the good people of Nigeria home and abroad for you to come up with this publication defending this barbaric act that your men allegedly carried out.

As a Nigerian, i weep, i weep for you 'cos you have no shame, i weep for my nation 'cos all i see is 160 million vulnerable people at the mercies of lunatics in uniforms.

Do the honorable thing resign from your office 'cos you are a wrong fit for that office.

I hope and pray that the video shown were not true about Jos riots. This video showed how the defenceless civilians were senselessly murdeed like rams. I still have sleepness nights thinking about my father land each time i read or see any picture or vedio of Jos riots.
Boko Harram claimed over one thouands Nigerians and Jos riots claimed about six hundred Nigerians in riots that were connected with religion misunderstanding. No wonder the Westen world is calling Nigeria a terrorist country. Nigerians are terrorising each other on grounds of religion and political association. Loook at the way Dipo Dina was assassinated in Ogun State. Untill the assassins who assassinated Dipo Dina are brought to book, all policians in Ogun State are murderers like their Osun and Oyo politicians who murdered Chief Bola Ige. May God safe Nigerians from murderes in power.

Why lie like this? You couldnt even make a scapegoat of the lowly soldier caught red handed even if just to go through the motions. It shows that at the highest levels the Nigerian military does not value human life at all.

This is a reminder and warning for those that think that a return of some mythical, rawlings type military take over is the solution for Nigeria.... they are just full of more potential Abachas....

Yeye Nigerian military that has more Admirals than it has war ships. That has more Air Commodores (equivalent of Army Brig Generals) and above, than it has operational airplanes -just think of the that.

Nigeria; Good People, Bad Military.

The much awaited, much talked about Nigeria Rawlings has to clean up the Nigeria military first. Most of the Nigeria Army officers of today are leftover of professional ME-GUARDS of the military government era. They were properly trained as ME-GUARDS, for crumbs from the Generals, they brutally repressed Nigeria masses and kept them in check while the Generals loot the treasury. Examples are the so called Babangida boys, Abacha boys, I guess Gen. Abubakar didn't need boys -he only needed to loot for about 2years. It will take some major cleansing to wipe out brutality against unarmed civilian from the Nigerian Army -they are too used to it.

This third world army general with no sound training and twisted mentality is openly insulting the inteliigence of Nigerians by thinking that they can be hoodwinked into believing that the footage about the killings of Civilians by those barbaric ill-educated and ill-trained soldiers was a "technological abracadabra". At least, he could have been successful assuming he was telling it to the marines or to those alien creatures in some distant planets. I wonder if there is still anyone or anywhere on the face of this planet that has never heard of the atrocious and barbaric exploits of the Nigerian Military forces within their own country. It is high time these physically and mentally unfit pot-bellied generals found stinky gutters full of rats and maggots to sit their dirty arses.

Mr. Brigadier General you've just succeeded in exposing yourself as an illiterate. I know you are a zombie; you do what you are told to do. Soldiers in other countries work close with the universities to develop new technologies for advancement in construction and modern warfare but for years we have known Nigerian officer to work close with pepper soup kitchens. I am certain the video to you is showing a super highway with 3 lanes. Can you name the software out there that would make what you are saying possible? Last month in Ghana the interior minister was sacked and some army officers demoted for defending an army brutality before investigation was done. Google ‘Bawku Strip-Naked Show ‘

"This army remains a professional Army built on high moral, ethical and disciplinary standards." The Nigerian military is anything but professional with high moral standards. It is unethical, lazy corrupt and indiscipline. More than 95% of its officers and men cannot pass a medical fitness test. The fact that they are now in the barracks does not make them professional. Not even the fact of their participation in peace keeping or enforcement operations! In fact their participation in such operations is only for the foreign currency which the rank and file are usually shortchanged. Remember Akure? What has the Nigerian military achieved in peace time? How many kilometres of road or bridges have they built? Look at their dirty barracks! They are no good!

The truth is that video was never an edited video, it was a raw one. I should beg the officer making the rebranding to go and consult IT expert to make him to be aware of what is possible in Information technology world via computer. That video was a raw one: The first soldier shot from the back, while the other sodier shot the dieing man from the front as he saw he was still shaking or alive. So the last shot was to make sure he was dead. It was a brutal killing from one of the assasins we have in the loose nations called nigeria.

In a civilised modern society, going public with such a statement should have earned this man a summary suspension while the relevant law enforcement agency investigate the allegation. It is not the duty of the Nigeria Army to investigate the incident. That's the job of the police. Unfortunately the police is not empowered and very corrupt.
The rag tag,ill equip and corrupt Nigeria Army had better be reminded if this Bgrd has memory problem that the extra judicial killings in Odi and Zakim Biam was done by the same Nigeria Army who see themselves as forces of occupation. His feeble attempt to dilute the truth smack of irresponsibility and we can understand that given the environment they operate where politicians hardly have respect for dignity of human life, the Nigeria Army cannot act in isolation. No amount of white washing would change their image.Only a civil re-orientation on the part of the ruling class would naturally flow to the Nigeria Army.Period and Bgrd. shut up!
