Hundeyin, however, left out the name of the suspect.

The Lagos State Police Command has said that the security operative who shot dead a resident of the state at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) mega filling station in the Obalende area of the state, is one of its officers.

SaharaReporters had reported that a male resident whose identity could not be ascertained was shot dead on Wednesday evening while struggling to buy fuel amid the current scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol.

The deceased was said to have engaged in an argument with another person at the filling station over whose turn it was to buy fuel.

It was during the argument and scuffle that the deceased was shot dead. The killer fled the scene immediately.

However, there were conflicting reports regarding the identity of the killer. While some witnesses said the killer was a policeman, others said he was an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The DSS has denied that the man was one of its agents.

But confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the shooter has been identified as a police officer serving at Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 17, Lion Building, Lagos.

Hundeyin, however, left out the name of the suspect.

The police spokesperson said, “The person behind the shooting has been identified as a police officer serving at Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 17, Lion Building, Lagos.

“Investigation is still ongoing and further findings will be made available. Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command is working with the family of the deceased to ensure that there is no miscarriage of justice.”
